Deutschland Tour stage win by Madis Mihkels

Intermarché-Circus-Wanty rider Madis Mihkels won the third stage of the Deutschland Tour in Essen on Saturday, 26 August in a sprint to the finish.

The 20-year-old Estonian prevailed against big names like Danny van Poppel, Phil Bauhaus or Mads Pedersen and celebrated his second professional success after his home victory at the Tour of Estonia a year ago.

Despite a position that was far from ideal for the final sprint, Mihkels overtook his competitors and took the lead in the last 100 metres. He did not give it up until the finish line and won by half a bike length. 

Madis Mihkels thus achieved the seventeenth victory for Team Intermarché-Circus-Wanty this season.
