From its Advanced Internal Cable Routing to its Boost rear axle and UDH gear hanger, the Acid 240 Hybrid Rookie's frame is bursting with exactly the same kind of attention to detail as our adult mountain bikes. The lightweight Bosch SX drive and fixed 400Wh battery sit snugly in the frame, providing up to 60Nm of pedal assistance to a maximum speed of 20km/h, plus full compatibility with the optional 250Wh PowerMore range extender. Details matter when you're designing a bike for young riders. The Acid 240 Hybrid Rookie SLX's Magura MT Thirty hydraulic disc brakes, for example, aren't just powerful. They also feature excellent lever adjustment, so they can be set up perfectly for small hands. Combined with the 19mm-diameter handlebar and the easily adjustable air suspension fork, it's the kind of thing that can make all the difference. A remote dropper post will help give their confidence a boost, and big volume 2.35in Schwalbe Hans Dampf tyres have the grip they'll need to build their riding skills. And, with pedal assistance up to 20km/h from Bosch's lightweight SX drive and 400Wh battery – delivered via Shimano's smooth 1x11 Cues gears – there's plenty of extra shove on tap for fun family rides.

Gear and brake cables need a way to get from handlebar controls to frame – but what if there was no need for holes near the head tube? We came up with a design that takes cables into the frame via the headset, maintaining full internal cable routing but making it even neater and less obtrusive.

Bosch SX technology incorporates a new, lighter and more configurable battery setup. To make the most of the weight saving, we've integrated the new battery fully into the down tube. This means we can position it optimally for the best weight distribution and handling, as well as saving more weight by building a down tube that's precisely the right size to fit, and without the need for an access hatch. And the Power More option means you can add an additional 250Wh battery quickly and simply, for extra range. It's the best of both worlds.

For off-road riding you need a bike that responds quickly, but also feels stable and secure. That's where Agile Ride Geometry comes in. Offering an ideal blend of on-demand steering precision, climbing agility and descending stability, it's perfect for every rider who values their time on the trail. If you're a mountain biker, you'll instantly feel at home...

Smooth Welding isn't easy, but worthwhile things usually aren't. It has two advantages. First, and most obviously, it looks great: one tube seems to almost flow into the other. Second, and at least as importantly, it helps to minimise load peaks on welded areas for better frame strength and durability.

CUBE's Aluminium Superlite starts with heat-treated 6061 aluminium, which has the qualities – high fatigue resistance, good stiffness, low weight and excellent strength – that are important for a bicycle frame. Then we make it into double butted tubes, to reduce weight without sacrificing any of its strength. The result? Exceptionally light, strong and tough frames.
