NEXT GOLDEN GENERATION

THREE WORLD CHAMPIONS, ONE FUTURE

The Mountain Bike World Championships in Switzerland’s Valais region proved that committed youth development doesn’t just nurture potential – it creates true World Champions. Under the banner of NEXT GOLDEN GENERATION, we celebrate three gold medals and one silver and show how today’s young talents are already becoming the champions of tomorrow.

ROSA ZIERL

COURAGE, COMPOSURE, WORLD CHAMPION

The story began with Rosa Zierl in the Junior Women’s Downhill. At just 16, she delivered one of the most emotional moments of the championships. After setting the fastest qualifying time, she went all-in for the final run. With calm precision and fearless commitment, she mastered the technical course in Champéry. When she crossed the line, it was clear: World Champion – with 1.8 seconds to spare.

“I still can’t quite believe it. My run felt so good, and in the last corners I was just thinking: don’t make a mistake, just bring it home,” said the newly crowned World Champion.

A fitting reward for a season packed with World Cup wins – and the first milestone in what promises to be a glittering career.

MARUŠA TEREZA ŠERKEZI

ENDURANCE, TACTICS, GOLD

In the Junior Women’s Cross-Country, there was no stopping Maruša Tereza Šerkezi. The 18-year-old Slovenian wasn’t fazed by the pressure of being favourite. Shoulder to shoulder with Swiss rider Anja Grossmann, she fought her way around the demanding Crans-Montana circuit, before unleashing a decisive attack in the final lap. From there she powered away, opening up a lead of more than a minute by the finish.

Maruša described her race strategy with clarity: “I knew I had to control the race. I just tried to pick the right moment to make my move.”

After bronze in 2024, this gold medal was the natural next step in a success story that is only just beginning.

FINN TREUDLER

ATTACK, EMOTION, TRIUMPH

In the U23 Men’s race, Finn Treudler wrote his own fairy tale. Already a silver medallist in the Short Track, he had shown he was among the very best of his generation. But in the XCO he wanted more. Cheered on by the Swiss crowd, he bided his time before launching his attack in lap four. With the fastest split of the entire competition, he tore the field apart and rode solo to the finish. Almost a minute clear, he claimed the rainbow jersey on home soil.

“There’s nothing better than racing in front of your own fans – and to win here, it’s just overwhelming,” said Finn, wiping away his first tears of joy.

A home victory that crowns an outstanding season for the young Swiss.
