Michael Raelert takes the win in Papendorf

Successful test race for the World Championship in the home region of the Raelert-Brothers – Clear victory on the Ironman 70.3 distance ends a thrilling weekend

Rostock. With a clear victory in Papendorf, Michael Raelert has successfully completed a thrilling race weekend for the Raelert-Brothers. In 4:10:02 hours the 34-year-old won the first edition of the “Xtreme Triathlon” over the Ironman 70.3 distance of 1.9 kilometer swim, 90 km bike and 21.1 km run with a very large margin. “It was a nice race and a successful event with many well-known faces", said Michael Raelert after crossing the finish line, "it's always nice when you are competing in your home region and you are allowed to win.


During the swim on the rowing venue in Warnow, Michael Raelert took over the lead from the get-go. He finished the two-lap course in 27:25 minutes and added a fast bike ride on the six-lap-course in 2:19:39 hours. He continued his start-to-finish victory in the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern thanks to a half marathon of 1:22:58 hours on the seven-lap course around the Lake Papendorfer See. "It was a test race out of full training," said Michael Raelert, "it was not my plan to race at the limit, but to have a hard session on my road to Zell am See."

Michael Raelert will start at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Zell am See, Austria, on August 30th. "This is my next big goal," predicts the 34-year old. "The World Championship comes to Europe for the first time, and I want to win my third world title in Zell am See." Michael Raelert won the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in 2009 and 2010. While Andreas Raelert showed a strong performance on Sunday to battle himself in sixth place at the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt, Michael Raelert celebrated a nice victory in Papendorf at the same time. After this thrilling weekend, the Raelert-Brothers start confident into the next few weeks.
