The Hyde Race is our answer to the very specific demands of urban riding. The silent Gates Carbon Drive belt is an important part of the solution, rendering trouser legs smeared with chain oil a thing of the past. And it goes without saying that 'Race' isn't just a word that we've added to the frame. We sweated the details, not just in terms of state-of-the-art propulsion from the 8 speed Alfine hub, but also making the bike as light as possible. The Hyde Race is a true urban speed machine.
Aside from high quality, double butted frame tubes, we made the Hyde's frame with torsional rigidity in mind and also added a bunch of unique features. For example, the frame can be opened via the innovative Split & Side Dropout when the drive belt has to be changed. Belt tension can also be adjusted easily, and locked with two screws. We've concealed cables in the down tube, allowing the classically elegant tube shapes to be shown at their best and reducing maintenance at the same time. We've also looked at the best way to attach mudguards, a luggage rack, kickstand and a frame lock.
The focus is on the super-silent and maintenance-free Gates belt - oiling the chain and dirty trouser legs are both in the past. The Gates CDN belt has been reinfored with carbon fibre and can be cleaned with water. It drives the rear wheel via Shimano's Alfine 8 speed rear hub; a lower-maintenance combination probably doesn't exist. The low maintenance theme continues with the Shimano BR-M355 hydraulic disc brake system, which delivers reliable stopping power regardless of the weather.
