Race 27.5

Met de Two15, ons wedstrijdwapen voor de gravity scene, borduren we verder op het succes van z’n voorgangers. Nog steeds met 215 mm veerweg aan de achterkant, maar nu wel met 27.5 inch wielen, waarmee je makkelijker over obstakels rolt. Hiermee beschikt de Two15 over voldoende reserves om de meest ruigste afdalingen zonder kleurscheuren door te komen. De Marzocchi Bomber 380 voorvork en de Fox Van demper bieden de tractie en controle die je nodig hebt, ongeacht je snelheid. En moet het gas er toch wat af, dan kan je vertrouwen op de dubbele zuigers en de 200 mm voorremschijf van de Magura MT5 remmen. Het schakelgebeuren wordt verzorgd door een X9 10-speed derailleur van SRAM. En de onafgeveerde massa komt bij Answer en Schwalbe vandaan: supersolide Atac DH wielen met daaromheen Muddy Mary’s. Hardcore onderdelen voor de hardcore downhiller, maar met een fijn soft prijsje, al zeggen we het zelf.

Details

Zwaartekracht is je vriend en vijand tegelijkertijd. Deze natuurkracht stelt je in staat om te vliegen, maar brengt je soms ook ongewild en onaangenaam hard in contact met Moeder Aarde. Als het spel met de zwaartekracht je ding is, moet je de Two15 27.5 hebben. Snel en lichtvoetig, maar ook stabiel en controleerbaar. Z’n frame is ontwikkeld op basis van ons befaamde High Performance Aluminium (HPA), met grondig bewerkte framebuizen. Die wegen niks teveel, maar zijn wel bestand tegen de meest extreme belasting. Dat zeggen niet wij, maar de resultaten uit ons testlab. Dat lab is de nachtmerrie van ieder frame, maar de Two15 doorstond alle martelingen probleemloos. Sterk en mooi gaan hier samen; alle kabels lopen binnendoor voor een cleane look, makkelijk schoonmaken en soepel schakelen. De lengte van de achterbrug is gefinetuned voor gebruik in combinatie met voorvorken met een veerweg van 200 mm of meer. En dankzij de 157 mm brede steekas, de vlakke hoeken en de stijve voortrein blijft de Two15 met een autistische hardnekkigheid de door jou gekozen lijn volgen.

        We optimized our new dropout design based on the Syntace X12 through-axle system, enlarging the area of the frame where the hanger is mounted. We can now fit the longer Direct Mount hangers. Shifting precision and stiffness is therefore improved. With the new design it's also possible to swap the whole contact area of the axle with the hanger should the system be worn out.

        Very high tensile strength heat-treated 7005 aluminium alloy is developed for the highest requirements. It is very stiff, fatigue resistant, corrosion resistant and has high elongation. Our Superlite tubes are triple butted, giving very light tubesets with a high level of stiffness.

        Sophisticated suspension kinematics are only able to work correctly if the associated shock is properly tuned. We researched and found a specific shock setup in cooperation with Fox Racing Shox, using extensive testing for almost every CUBE full-suspension model.

        The key requirement is for continuously active and fully usable travel, with the rear triangle unaffected by pedalling or especially braking forces. There are a number of ways of achieving this – CUBE favours a four bar design with a chainstay pivot. Here, one of the pivots is located between the dropout and the chainstay, ensuring that braking does not have a negative effect on the movement of the rear wheel. By carefully positioning the remaining pivots, we obtain the finest riding qualities for our full suspension bikes both uphill and downhill. This fact is proven by many top test results in leading magazines over the last few years.

        For our high end bikes we use High Performance 7005 Aluminium alloy which has a very low density combined with high strength due to the alloy elements and the hardening heat treatment. By triple butting or even quadruple butting (as in the REACTION , HANZZ and AERIUM models) to give different wall thicknesses in one tube, aluminium tubes are reinforced where required and made lighter where possible. In this way, we succeed in getting material where its needed most. In addition we use special tube shapes, manufactured with hydroforming technology to better cope with directional forces. The low density and high strength as well as the butting and the hydroforming technology enable us to make high performance frames with an ultimate level of stiffness.

        Internally routed cables offer many advantages. Cables are protected from dirt for longer life, weight is saved thanks to the absence of external housing and the bike has a clean, sleek appearance.

        The post mount rear brake system is found on all carbon fiber frames and top aluminum full suspension models. Two bolts and the IS adpater aren’t needed anymore, and fewer parts means less weight. In this case we save 30 grams. This may not sound a lot. But there's potential to save weight in every detail.

        With Press Fit bearings, the bottom bracket bearings are pressed directly into the frame and not screwed in as usual. This gives a wider bottom bracket shell and allows us to build a wider down tube and more broadly-spaced chainstays. Every millimetre of additional width gives a significant improvement in lateral stiffness.

        This steerer tube design is stiffer than a conventional straight steerer and yields a more secure ride feel even in difficult terrain. Minimal flex at the front of the frame means the greatest possible steering precision. With the larger steerer, the forks become more rigid. At the same time weight is saved due to the absence of bearing shells as the lower bearing is fully integrated into the head tube. On all of our CUBE carbon models the upper bearing shells are also directly in the frame, so that once more a few grams are saved and the energy transfer is very direct.
