Tour de France stage 12 - Guillaume Martin 16th in first Pyrenees stage

Guillaume Martin rode a strong first Pyrenees stage in Tour de France. After a very fast opening of the stage a group of 12 riders broke away.

In the peloton Team Sky controlled and the last breakaway rider Cummings was caught on Col de Peyresourde. Guillaume Martin was able to hang on long, but had to let the main favorites go in the final kilometres of Col de Peyresourde. Martin rode on at its own pace and thus limited his loss. In the general classification Martin advances to 21st spot.

Guillaume Martin:

"It was a long and difficult stage again. I did not feel super good this morning. I was a little tired at the start. I then tried as long as possible to hang on to the favorites group on Port de Balès. When they accelerated near the top I was dropped. At the foot of the last climb I felt better and thus I could limit the gap."

"It's hard to explain why the last climb went better. A race of three weeks is also a discovery for me. Tomorrow awaits a new stage. Generally such short stages do not really suit me. But I have to start the stage well, the legs will speak. The humidity made the technical downhill dangerous. That made it a difficult stage again."
