Frame

A Fatbike isn't just a bike with extra wide tyres - there are other considerations too. That's why, for the Nutrail, we designed a brand new chassis with special geometry and specific details. The frame is extraordinarily light thanks to our triple butted and hydroformed High Performance Aluminium (HPA) tubeset. The Nutrail ticks all the boxes for a versatile Fatbike that's ready to take on any trail, blending a tapered head tube, extra-wide PressFit bottom bracket shell and 197mm quick release axle to create an exceptionally stiff frame. Cutting edge features include cable routing for a Sideswing Direct Mount front derailleur, an replaceable gear hanger and internal cable routing for a dropper post.

Components

The 4.5 inch Schwalbe Jumbo Jim tyres and RockShox Bluto RL suspension fork - which was specially developed for Fatbikes - are two of the Nutrail 2X's most important equipment highlights. Taken together, they allow you to ride straight through the winter as well as speed along dry summer trails. 80mm Answer Fat Atak wheels give the 4.5 inch Jumbo Jims stacks of grip and the handlebar, stem and seat post are all from the CUBE stable of in-house components. We have combined a 2x10 Shimano Deore / XT transmission with a RaceFace Ride 26/24 chainset, and Magura's MT2 hydraulic disc brakes provide reliable speed control even in adverse conditions.

        We optimized our new dropout design based on the Syntace X12 through-axle system, enlarging the area of the frame where the hanger is mounted. We can now fit the longer Direct Mount hangers.         We ran innumerable tests to develop the Agile Ride Geometry in our series of big wheel bikes. We also added the 27.5in wheel size to the very well received portfolio. Three important details lead to the very agile character. Increased fork offsets let us achieve the same trail as our 26in bikes without having to steepen the head angle, thus maintaining generous toe clearance to the front wheel. Secondly we shortened the chain stays without compromising the seat angle. We invented a patented construction to mount the front derailleur to give us more tyre clearance while keeping a conventional seat angle, leading to a perfect riding position for every rider size. Last but not least we kept the BB height the same as on our 26in bikes. These measures lead to a natural riding position. Every mountain biker will feel immediately at home on a CUBE 29er or 27.5.

        Very high tensile strength heat-treated 7005 aluminium alloy is developed for the highest requirements. It is very stiff, fatigue resistant, corrosion resistant and has high elongation. Our Superlite tubes are triple butted, giving very light tubesets with a high level of stiffness.

        For our high end bikes we use High Performance 7005 Aluminium alloy which has a very low density combined with high strength due to the alloy elements and the hardening heat treatment. By triple butting or even quadruple butting (as in the REACTION , HANZZ and AERIUM models) to give different wall thicknesses in one tube, aluminium tubes are reinforced where required and made lighter where possible. In this way, we succeed in getting material where its needed most. In addition we use special tube shapes, manufactured with hydroforming technology to better cope with directional forces. The low density and high strength as well as the butting and the hydroforming technology enable us to make high performance frames with an ultimate level of stiffness.

        Internally routed cables offer many advantages. Cables are protected from dirt for longer life, weight is saved thanks to the absence of external housing and the bike has a clean, sleek appearance.

        Welded joints in our high-quality aluminum frames are specially finished via this method and create the impresssion of seamless tube design. This generates the visual effect of moulding and ensures high load bearing capacity.

        In this system, a cone is used to form a play-free connection. It is only necessary to tighten the axle from one side. The position of the wheel is done by an insert in the right-hand dropout which is secured by a bolt. The main advantages of the Syntace system are quick and simple changing of the wheel, reliable position of the brake disc and higher stiffness of the rear of the bike. This allows the assembly to be made lighter than a conventional through-axle.
