Team Wanty-Groupe Gobert - Dupont top 10 in Brussels Cycling Classic

Dupont continues top 10 streak in Brussels

The Brussels Cycling Classic (1.HC) opened a tough weekend for Wanty-Groupe Gobert. The Belgian semi-classic connects Walloon and Flemish Brabant to arrive at the King Baudouin Stadium. The race was colored by a break of seven riders, which was systematically reduced. Some riders tried to avoid the bunch sprint, but that was inevitable on the Houba Destrooperlaan. A crash caused bad luck for a number of riders, including our Timothy Dupont. The German champion Pascal Ackermann was the fastest. Timothy Dupont finished 9th and continues his series of top-10 spots. On Sunday he will be at the start in Grand Prix de Fourmies.

Timothy Dupont:

"It was a fast and tiring day. I did not feel great during the race, but my legs improved in the final. I did not want to start the sprint too early, but when I wanted to launch my sprint there was a massive crash. I was pretty well placed, but the crash messed everything up. I had to brake and accelerate again. Too bad I could not get closer to the winner, but this performance confirms my good level.»

«Last week I was sick, and I still have not got rid of it. I hope to be at 100% back soon. Tomorrow I get a new chance in Fourmies. Last year I rode all day long in front. Now I will focus more on the sprint.»
