Kustpijl - Jérôme Baugnies on the podium in special edition

Kustpijl (1.2, 09/09) 2017 was a special edition on Saturday.

Due to a lack of signalists and a refusal of the police, the start was postponed with two hours. The riders finally rode 124 kilometers. A group of 21 riders soon was formed, with Guillaume Van Keirsbulck and Robin Stenuit. With 40km to go a group returned with Jérôme Baugnies. In the final, Baugnies accelerated with a group of eight riders who rode for victory. Christophe Noppe won the sprint, Baugnies finished 3rd.

Jérôme Baugnies:

"Everyone was ready to start when we were told that the race was postponed. I just walked into a tavern and drank 3 coffees. Two hours I sat there and then we could start. Eventually I'm glad that the race started, but it was only 124 kilometers. That did not play in my favor. "

"I am not really satisfied with my spot. The course went well and at the end we rode to the finish with seven riders. On de Wandelaar (short uphill climb) everyone looked at me so I stood down. The Norwegian Ole Forfang started the sprint 700 meters from the line. I responded but decided not to overtake his sprint. Roy Jans then took over and I got too late at full speed. Because of the somewhat strange action of the Norwegian, I had to go for third place."

"Monday I head to GP Marcel Kint, but I am particularly aiming for Grand Prix de Wallonie on Wednesday."
