Team Wanty-Groupe Gobert - Tour of Taihu Lake (3)

Boris Vallée extends lead in GC

The third stage in Tour of Taihu Lake (2.1, 7-14/10) suited the sprinters again. The 88.5 flat kilometers were made for a fast stage. The peloton controlled until the first intermediate sprint, where leader Boris Vallée took another three bonus seconds. Then a break of four riders went clear. Wanty-Groupe Gobert chased in the peloton together with the team of the later winner Mareczko. He was slightly faster than our Boris Vallée in the final sprint. In the classification, Vallée now has an advantage of 12 seconds on his first pursuer. He also takes over the green jersey. Thursday a criterium of 98km in Jiangyan is on the program.

Boris Vallée:

«The team controlled excellently in the front line of the bunch. In the run-up to the first intermediate sprint, I accelerated and I could take three bonus seconds. Then a non-dangerous group attacked, so that was the ideal situation for us. We then chased with Willier Triestina and also St Georges came to lend a hand. We only caught the break in the last corner, so it was quite nervous.»

"I had to find the right wheel to avoid being boxed in. At 300 meters from the line there was a slowdown, but I waited for the 220 meter sign to launch my sprint. Mareczko passed me with a little more speed. I finish second, but today I am satisfied. Yesterday I was disappointed because I only lost by a few millimeters. Today there was no photo finish. And I gathered bonus seconds again."

"I have confidence in the upcoming days, as we have a solid and motivated team. There are four more dangerous stages waiting. Tomorrow a local circuit and probably a new sprint awaits. I do not want to lose precious time and keep my orange leader's jersey. The green jersey is a nice extra, but the final classification remains the main goal. »
