Our Two15 downhiller moves to the next generation. Lighter, more dynamic and an even more potent force in downhill, our new gravity bike's fresh design continues its predecessor's success. With a new frame designed around a 27.5 inch wheel but still delivering 215mm of travel at the rear, the Two15 HPA Race has plenty in reserve. And you're going to need those reserves, if you're going to ride the terrain and at the speed for which the Two15 is designed.

Frame

2016's Two15 takes a new direction while remaining true to its roots, by moving to the 27.5 inch wheel. With a tweaked design and thanks to the new Fox suspension, it was possible to deliver the full 215mm of travel with just a single linkage - which means a significant weight saving. The new design includes superior alignment and a shorter shock, reducing weight and improving ride quality in the process. We've even cleaned up the looks with internal cable routing. 27.5 inch wheels and optimised chainstay lengths deliver almost limitless traction and unbeatable suspension performance. In order to improve stiffness even further, we equipped the chainstays with a 157mm X12 quick release axle.

Components

With this new gravity frame, we laid the foundations for a super-light downhill bike. Fox's suspension components, with their entirely new suspension technology, remove any limits on setup and overall performance. Up front there's a Fox 40 RC with adjustable low speed compression and 200mm travel and, at the rear, we've gone for the beautifully compliant Van shock with a generous 215mm travel. Hauling it all to a halt reliably and in any conditions is Sram's Guide R brake system. A Sram XO 1x10 transmission with downhill-specific 11-28 cassette and obligatory MRP G3 chain guide delivers power to the trail. In order to deliver maximum traction in spite of the freqent air-time that's part and parcel of downhilling, the Two15 runs on light and robust CSW DH 3.7 wheels shod with Schwalbe's Magic Mary grip monsters in the lightweight Super Gravity variant. A Race Face Chester Direct Mount cockpit with 780mm width and 35mm bar clamp provides extra steering precision.

        The Agile Trail Geometry carries over the Agile Ride Geometry’s benefits but with more focus on aggressive trail use. This can be achieved through a more compact frame construction with an even lower top tube and improved standover height.         Sophisticated suspension kinematics are only able to work correctly if the associated shock is properly tuned. We researched and found a specific shock setup in cooperation with Fox Racing Shox, using extensive testing for almost every CUBE full-suspension model.

        The key requirement is for continuously active and fully usable travel, with the rear triangle unaffected by pedalling or especially braking forces. There are a number of ways of achieving this – CUBE favours a four bar design with a chainstay pivot. Here, one of the pivots is located between the dropout and the chainstay, ensuring that braking does not have a negative effect on the movement of the rear wheel. By carefully positioning the remaining pivots, we obtain the finest riding qualities for our full suspension bikes both uphill and downhill. This fact is proven by many top test results in leading magazines over the last few years.

        For our high end bikes we use High Performance 7005 Aluminium alloy which has a very low density combined with high strength due to the alloy elements and the hardening heat treatment. By triple butting or even quadruple butting (as in the REACTION , HANZZ and AERIUM models) to give different wall thicknesses in one tube, aluminium tubes are reinforced where required and made lighter where possible. In this way, we succeed in getting material where its needed most. In addition we use special tube shapes, manufactured with hydroforming technology to better cope with directional forces. The low density and high strength as well as the butting and the hydroforming technology enable us to make high performance frames with an ultimate level of stiffness.

        The post mount rear brake system is found on all carbon fiber frames and top aluminum full suspension models. Two bolts and the IS adpater aren’t needed anymore, and fewer parts means less weight. In this case we save 30 grams. This may not sound a lot. But there's potential to save weight in every detail.

        With Press Fit bearings, the bottom bracket bearings are pressed directly into the frame and not screwed in as usual. This gives a wider bottom bracket shell and allows us to build a wider down tube and more broadly-spaced chainstays. Every millimetre of additional width gives a significant improvement in lateral stiffness.

        This steerer tube design is stiffer than a conventional straight steerer and yields a more secure ride feel even in difficult terrain. Minimal flex at the front of the frame means the greatest possible steering precision. With the larger steerer, the forks become more rigid. At the same time weight is saved due to the absence of bearing shells as the lower bearing is fully integrated into the head tube. On all of our CUBE carbon models the upper bearing shells are also directly in the frame, so that once more a few grams are saved and the energy transfer is very direct.

        On polished, brushed aluminium and all HPC frames, the logos and graphics are applied in multi-layer wet paint. We use this surface treatment technology mainly to save weight.
